For Honor Season VII: Storm and Fury is heating up with a new limited-time, in-game event, Reigning Inferno. The event introduces an exclusive game mode called Infernal Dominion, which brings a unique twist to Dominion matches. When a zone is contested – meaning at least one player from either team is within its borders – a ring of fire surrounds the zone, forcing enemies to fight to the death or take immense burn damage by fleeing through the fire. Don't let a little singeing scare you away, though, because Reigning Inferno runs from August 16 through August 30.
Overview[]
Mount Ignis has erupted. The event brings a dominion mode with a catch: Infernal Dominion. Contested zones are now surrounded with searing flames and don't heal those who capture them. However, boosting a zone is now quadrupled, while killing Soldiers grants some health and stamina.
Infernal Dominion[]
Infernal Dominion is an event specific mode that modifies the Dominion game mode into a more intense match.
- The most identifiable part of this mode is how the Capture Zones function:
- When contested, the borders of the Zone will become lit with a fire wall. The fire wall takes a few seconds to come up and go down. Any unit that passes through this flaming wall will be burnt for 45 health over 7.5 seconds.
- Capturing a Zone takes twice as long now, which is a full ten seconds if capturing it on your own. Having multiple Heroes on a point will hasten this process.
- While the points will grant twice as much Renown when boosting the point, boosting the Zones won't heal you.
- As healing is not possible from Boosting a Zone, all Heroes will have access to an upgraded version of Body Count, granting them roughly 10 Health and Stamina for killing each Soldier. In trade, Soldiers will not grant Renown to the team.
- Feats will be disabled during the Event (for Event Comebacks, Perks are also not active).
- A Special Buff will be available on the map for a Hero to take, spawning instantly on the map and a minute after it is taken. It will grant for 45 seconds (or until death) the following traits:
- 20% increase to movement speed
- Immunity to the fire hazards on the map, including the Contested Zone's flaming wall
- Attacks will deal Fire Damage overtime equal to the Contested Zone's flaming wall
Map & Features[]
Infernal Dominion is played on three maps: Citadel Gate, Overwatch and Sanctuary Bridge. These maps are all set at dusk, red and ablaze from the volcano's inferno, causing the map to be littered with fire hazards left and right. Mount Ignis can be seen in the distance on all the maps.
All soldiers are now covered in ash and soot, with their armor damaged by flames.
Event Rewards[]
Outside the Event Order, players who participate in the event can loot exclusive in-game rewards, including new fire-themed weapons, outfits, ornaments, effects and emotes. While the weapons looted are limited to the Hero played during the match or who they are salvaged from, all other items are not hero specific (ie. you can attain a Raider's ornament even when playing as the Warden).
Players can also opt to purchase the special items that are exclusive to the event, collectively known as the Reigning Inferno bundle. In this bundle, there is an non-event-exclusive Illustrious set differing between factions that featured an ornament, battle outfit, a flaming mask and special Effects where the victim sears in flames. There is also a free roam Emote exclusive to the event, the Volcanic Destruction Blast, where the Hero can collect a ball of flames into their palm before expelling it forward.
Event Comeback[]
At the end of Year 5 Season 1, Reigning Inferno made a return for a week. On top of bringing back the exclusive Volcanic Destruction Blast emote and lootable event cosmetics, the Devs have also added two more things in consideration of the new Wu Lin faction and new Heroes added ever since the event. The Wu Lin now have their own unique Illustrious set, with the same fire-breathing mask that all other factions have access to. All Marching Fire Heroes and on have also gotten their own exclusive weapon visuals too for the event, on top of being able to loot the fire-themed cosmetics too.
Year 6 Season 4 also reintroduced the event midseason, offering the same rewards along with giving exclusive weapon visuals to the Kyoshin, Pirate and Medjay.
The Reigning Inferno gamemode has also made a return, unchanged from its original state of a fiery Dominion mode. However, the gamemode has a few differences:
- Fire Damage by both the Contested Zone flaming wall and by the Special Buff has had its duration lessened to 5 seconds, causing the damage to be roughly ~30 damage total.
- The bonus movement speed from the Special Buff seems to have been increased to roughly 30% bonus from 20%.
- The gamemode will only feature the Citadel Gate map, and has kept its old design instead of being updated to how Citadel Gate currently is formatted. For example, entry to the Armory from the Defender Spawn is a ledge, not a two-way slope; the Blue Dome capture point is missing the rampart fencing that was added before.
- Soldiers are only covered in soot in the Reigning Inferno gamemode, and not in other modes.
Unique Orders[]
During the Reigning Inferno event, there will be many unique daily orders that tell the tale of how the three factions are trying to survive during the eruption, with each order telling of each region.
Unfortunately, some Orders were not recorded during the initial Reigning Inferno event; while a few orders were revisited during comeback events which have occured during Year 5, Season 1 and Year 6 Season 4, there are still a number of Orders missing, particularly for the Samurai faction which lacked any recorded orders originally.

Trivia[]
- The Volcanic Destruction Blast free roam emote exclusive to the event is likely based off of the Hadouken, a special move that first appeared in the fighting game series Street Fighter.
- It may also be related to the "Kamehameha" signature move used by Goku, the protagonist of the action manga series Dragon Ball.
- Both the Hadouken and Kamehameha are moves that features the user collecting energy into the palm of their hands before they shoot the energy out as a beam or projectile by thrusting the palms of their hands forward with the wrists close to each other. Both have seen many homages throughout video and pop media culture.
- While the Mask Outfits are named "Reigning Inferno," all of the effects are named after fire deities:
- The Knight's Vulcan is in reference to the god of fire, which includes the fire of volcanoes, deserts, metalworking and the forge, in Roman mythology. The English term of "volcano" originates from this god.
- The Viking's Surtr is in reference to a jotunn from Norse mythology who is a major figure of Ragnarok, wielding a flaming sword and will engulf the world in fire once done battling. He is connected to many fictional and non-fictional locations, including being the guard to the fiery realm of Muspell.
- The Samurai's Kagutsuchi (迦具土; also known as "Hi no Kagutsuchi"/火之迦具土) is a fire deity in Japanese folklore. His main association with volcanoes is how in one telling of folklore, Kagutsuchi was killed by his father after his mother's death (as Kagutsuchi caused burns during birth), with his body parts becoming volcanoes.
- More mentioned on the page for Kazan Castle, a castle blessed by Kagutsuchi in For Honor that is a Breach map.
- The Wu Lin's Huo Shen (火神; lit. "fire god") is a fire deity in Chinese mythology, and is often personified as Zhurong (祝融) who is both the god of fire and of the south.
