Ice Brawlers makes a return together with fresh holiday loot that will only be around for the event, so take your sleigh to the battlefield and show everyone your holiday spirit!
Overview[]
"Frozen landscapes. Brutal winds. Silent snowfall. The Holidays have arrived! During the Frost Wind Parade event, get into the spirit and loot festive outfits, effects and ornaments. Looking for a unique gift? Nothing beats a vicious yet merry execution for every opponent on your list! Remember, it's the thought that counts."
After patiently waiting and sipping on your favorite holiday beverage of choice with Gryphon, the Frost Wind Parade is finally here!
Starting today December 17th, until January 7th, For Honor’s limited-time holiday event Frost Wind Parade is live.
Throughout the entire event warriors will once again be able to enjoy Ice Brawlers, a game mode in which players Brawl on a sheet of ice that breaks over time. To be victorious, Warriors will need to vanquish their foes while at the same time being careful not to fall off the ever-shrinking icy battleground.
During the event, players will have the opportunity to loot holiday-themed battle outfits, mood effects, and ornaments from random drops at the end of all matches during the event. Warriors can also purchase exclusive Illustrious Outfits and Executions inspired by the holiday gift giving spirit.
Go forth warriors, polish your warmest armor, sharpen your favorite weapon, and join the Frost Wind Parade. May it be jolly and with many ledges.
Ice Brawler[]
"Step onto a frozen lake and brawl it up! Just keep in mind that ice... breaks."
Ice Brawler makes a return. Two teams of two Heroes fight it out on the icy surface of a frozen lake. Unlike the out-of-five matches normally, brawls over the ice is out-of-nine.
However, watch out! Each panel of ice will break under the weight of any player standing on top, especially if there is more than one. The ice has three breaking stages, which can be seen visually as water splashes and the ice breaks further, where at the third, it is guaranteed to completely break in a few seconds, plunging any poor soul into the shivering cold waters. Gladly, during the first two breaking stages, the ice will maintain if there is no one on top.
Other Changes[]
Winter Wonder Aesthetics[]
Contrary to previous years, For Honor has vested itself in the holiday season. In the main menu, Gryphon Claus sits by a warm fireplace, drinking eggnog as he rocks his rocking chair. The War Map is covered in snow with evergreen (and candy canes!?) growing everywhere. The face-off screen is set in the snow also, with a far off village visible in the distant as a single star shines brightly above. Music on the menus is a cheery barber shop rendition of "Jingle Bells" too!
In game, all the maps will be restricted to the snowy Valkenheim versions of each map.
Cosmetics[]
Outside the Event Order, players who participate in the event can loot exclusive in-game rewards, including new holiday spirit themed weapons, outfits, Snowflakeornaments, and Winter Magic Mood effects. While the weapons looted are limited to the Hero played during the match or who they are salvaged from, all other items are not hero specific (ie. you can attain a Raider's ornament even when playing as the Warden).
Players can also opt to purchase the special items that are exclusive to the event. It contains the Illustrious set wear you wear the Gift Bringer's hat as you pepper yourself or your foe in a holiday snow Mood Effect. There are also two new executions exclusive to the event, one where you plunge your foe with a candy cane before eating some of the mint, with the other having you gift your foe with an explosive surprise. All of these items can be purchased per Hero in the store, collectively known as the Frost Wind Parade bundle.
Soldiers[]
Soldiers have decked themselves in holiday costumes:
- Knights are snowmen now, their helmet complete replaced with a snowman's head, with the tophat and carrot nose. Together with holiday patterns on their armor, they wear a scarf and warm gloves and boots. Instead of a sword, they will wack their foes with a broom stick.
- Samurai have dressed themselves up as reindeers, with antlers atop their helmet and a coloured nose on their mask. Their armor has been festively coloured as they wear a scarf around their neck, warm wool boots and have a reindeer tail out the back. Instead of a katana blade, they will wack their enemies with a red and white candy cane.
- The Vikings have been inspired to look like Christmas elves, wearing fake white beards and fake ears. They even wear the Christmas elves' hat and shoes. Their armor even reflect the holiday spirit. Instead of swords, they will swing around a green, red and white candy cane.
Orders[]
Unlike previous events, the Frost Wind Parade does not have any particularly unique orders to recognize. However, all the dailies' titles will be tweaked to embrace the holiday spirit:
- Warrior: Merry/Frosty/Windy Holidays
- Attacker: Merry Capturer
- Slayer: Merry Killer
- Executioner: Merry Executioner
- Adaptable Warrior: Merry Heroes
Each weekend will also feature a special event order:
- Frost Wind Parade - December 18 - 21
- Be the faction with the most Ice Brawlers matches wins.
- Frost Wind Parade - December 25 - 28
- Be the faction with the most Ice Brawlers matches completed.
- Frost Wind Parade - January 1 - 4
- Be the faction with the most executions in Ice Brawlers matches.
Trivia[]
- The attire Gryphon wears in the main menu seems to be a modified version of the Pathfinder set, with the shoulder plates and armored waistcloth removed.
- Gryphon also rests his feet on a decapitated Syntribos head that is fully painted red.
- Prior to the starting of the Frost Wind Parade, the game's official twitch channel streamed a 24 Hour Yule Log ASMR, which featured the event's main menu animation of Gryphon rocking his chair by a fire. This ASMR stream had Gryphon speak lines occasionally, some being a reflection of Gryphon's holiday thoughts of other Heroes, to him singing For Honor versions of Christmas carols, to some very 4th wall breaking statements.
- The stream can be seen here. A number of community memes occasionally popped up on the stream, either visually or verbally by Gryphon himself.
